Introduction

There is typically no argument concerning the governance of fiscal matters in most organisations. The CFO has compliance responsibilities that ensure the role is not challenged by functional heads or any other senior figures within or outside the organisation. Governance of IT however is less clearcut. It is quite common to see individual departments doing their own thing, and for the CIO to be compromised by conflicting demands generated at varying levels within the organisation.

IT governance is becoming a pressing issue, and with growing demands for compliance with a variety of external and internal constraints, the CIO is increasingly answerable for the integrity and consistency of information handling within the organisation. Recent years have seen a proliferation of legislation and procedures that the CIO must accommodate. Data protection, anti-money laundering, Sarbanes-Oxley, and a variety of other demands mean the CIO has considerable external constraints to adhere to, as well as the growing requirement to ensure that IT investments are well aligned with the strategic direction of the
business.

This Master Class DVD will provide a broad overview of the strategic issues surrounding IT governance and provide detailed examination of the tactics and methods available to the CIO to implement effective IT governance. We will also examine the emerging tools and applications that support IT governance, since there can be no governance without supporting systems.
