On 30 March 2009 Intelฎ announced the launch of its Nehalem-EP processor based on its next generation microarchitecture. Intel operates an alternating Tic Toc approach to its development cycle - this time around it is the Toc cycle, which sees improvements in the microarchitecture. Next time it will be the Tic cycle, which will see the platform improve with an anticipated announcement of its 32 nm technology.
